Jacqueline approached me for a photo session of her family and children – an American family currently living in Rotterdam. Taking portraits together each year is a kind of tradition that I love.
The location of our choice was the Arboretum Trompenburg botanic garden with its green alleys, flowers and canals with picturesque bridges. It is for sure one of the loveliest places in Rotterdam, ideal for a walk and for a photo session.
We were quite lucky with the weather: the gray clouds suddenly cleared up and there came sunshine that we missed most of the summer. The children enjoyed running and playing around in the park, and it was fun to capture that.
Harper, who is five years old, wanted to play hide-and-seek but somehow she seemed to be everywhere at the same time! She was very enthusiast for taking solo portraits. So bright, vivid and sweet – I liked to chat with Harper and to have her as a model.
Just look at this photo. Harper knows very well how to be a star: after all, she is a ballerina!
The elder sister, Maya, is seven. She plays violin for three years now, but she can also do break-dance like Michael Jackson in her favorite clips and is good at Taekwondo! I like Maya’s portraits in the warm sunshine.
I like the bright colours of a sunny day, but the vintage-style color makes these photos reflect on the essence of childhood.
Just look at the girls together having fun with their mother!
The sisters have such a different character, it shows every moment: yet they are best friends.
And look at this dramatic portrait of Maya: this image could have been a hundred years old! 
There were not only pretty girls but also cool guys to portray! Kevin Jr., fifteen, and Jack, two years old – just look at his cute smile! I also love the father and son photographs. Real men here!
